One of the biggest challenges in collaborative projects is keeping track of file versions. As multiple team members make updates or changes, it can become unclear which version is the most recent or which one should be used. That’s where Pibox’s Version Tree comes in.
The Version Tree is a powerful feature that helps you maintain a clear and organized history of file versions. Every time someone uploads a new version of a file, it’s added to the tree, allowing your team to:
View and compare different versions side by side.
Restore previous versions if needed.
Stay aligned and work on the latest file without confusion.
How to add a new version of a file
There are several simple ways to add a new version of an existing file to the Version Tree. Let’s start with the most straightforward method—uploading a file directly.
Method 1: Uploading via the Chat tab
1. Open the Project Chat where the original file is located.
2. Click the “+” button to add a file.
3. Select the updated file version from your device.
4. After selecting the file you want to upload, a pop-up window will appear. To upload it as a new version of an existing file, check the box labeled Add file as a version to. Then click Choose file… to select the original file you want to attach this new version to.
5. Finally, click the Upload button to complete the process.
Method 2: Uploading via the Files tab
For more structured file management, upload files directly in the Files tab:
Navigate to the Files tab in your project.
Click on the Upload button to select the file you wish to upload like a version.
Select the file from your device.
Follow through by completing Step 4 and Step 5 as outlined in the first method.
Method 3: Using the "Add version" button
1. In the Files tab or while viewing the file, click the Add version button.
2. Upload a new file from your device or select one you've already uploaded.
3. Once the file is selected, click the Add version button to attach it to the original file as a new version.
That’s it. Your new version will be added to the Version Tree!
Note: Need to compare multiple versions of a file? No need to jump back and forth manually. Just click the version button and select the version you want to open. Pibox will even remember your playback position as you switch between versions.
How to use the "Comment version" feature
To help streamline your workflow, Pibox offers a powerful feature called Comment version. This allows you to view comments from an earlier version of a file while you're reviewing a newer version.
For example, if you’re working on Version 2 of a file, you can view comments made on Version 1 to clearly see which sections were changed or addressed. This helps reduce confusion and makes revisions more efficient.
Note: Comments from other versions are view-only. To reply to or edit a comment, you’ll need to switch to the specific version it was made on.
How to switch comment versions:
Click the Comment version button.
Select the version you’d like to view from the dropdown menu.
Tips for working with the Version Tree in Pibox
In collaborative environments, managing multiple file versions can get messy fast. The tips below can help you use Pibox’s Version Tree and Comment version features more effectively, so your team stays aligned and your projects stay on track:
Name your versions clearly
Use descriptive names when uploading new versions (e.g., “v2_more_reverb_vocals”) to help your team quickly identify what’s changed.
Compare versions before commenting
Use the built-in comparison tools to spot differences between versions before leaving feedback. This helps avoid redundant or outdated comments.
Always collaborate on the latest version
Ensure you or your team are working on the most recent file to avoid miscommunication. Pibox makes it easy to keep everyone on the same page.
By using the Comment version and Version Tree features, you can keep feedback organized, reduce back-and-forth, and improve the overall efficiency of your creative workflow.
